Fantastic learning in Year 5

July 7th, 2017

It has been another great week of learning in 5B and I am once again very proud of the children’s efforts! We have continued to explore our new novel in English, Journey to the River Sea. We have written poetry about the Amazon river and a setting description. The children have also used their rubrics to analyse their writing and have looked closely at their handwriting and punctuation too. They are definitely becoming experts in self-assessment and peer assessment! In maths we have continued our final project – planning a river study trip! This has involved looking at safety levels of water and using rounding skills of decimal numbers to draw conclusions. I have been very impressed by their river studies in geography and everyone has drawn a diagram to show the different features of rivers.

Next Friday we will be experiencing a day at secondary school at Wright Robinson College – letters have gone out and need to be returned by Thursday. Plus everybody should have received a newsletter today.

Our Super Learning Hero will be revealed next week as two year groups were out on trips and visits and we want to celebrate success when everyone is there. Our Championship winning team was Determination with Merrine scoring the highest points! Remember points can be earned for demonstrating the Rainbow Rules, attitude towards learning and even handing in Homework on time.

The school weekly attendance target is 97% and this week we were just below this again. So please encourage your child to come to school and see how they feel as the day progresses if they wake feeling slightly under the weather – we are now aiming towards our next reward on the Attendance Avengers board!!

Thank you for your continued support
